This article will cover your 24-36 months toddler development. Your little one will be changing rapidly through this time. They will be curious about the world around them. Into everything you will need eyes in the back of your head to keep them safe.

24-36 months toddler development milestones

TODDLER FOOD

As you introduce foods watch for allergies in your little ones.

Your toddler should be eating table food now and shoukd be able to feed themselves spoon and fork. They will still need you to cut up food for them. Some toddlers of this age will still prefer to use their fingers. A variety of food can be given to your toddler now. try to encourage your little one to try different foods. Try to always eat together around the table at mealtimes.

Your toddler may refuse some foods, be consistent and ensure your toddler eats well. Good eating habits need to start here for life. Try to ban sweets, crisps, pop and unhealthy snacks from your home.

Your toddler will probably be drinking from an open cup, some still like a bottle on the odd occassion.

POTTY TRAINING

Your toddler may be potty trained or may show signs of needing to be potty trained. My toddlers were all potty trained at around the age of three. Try not to potty train if you have big changes about to happen such as a new baby. Your toddler may still be in nappies at night.

BEDTIME.

Your toddler may still need one nap during the day. At night your toddler will need around ten hours sleep. Your toddler will probably be sleeping in a bed now and may become resistent to bedtime. Be consistent and have a good bedtime routine.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Your toddlers speech should grow rapidly during this year. They will begin to use plurals, adjectives and pronouns. Your toddler will be able to use time words and may use tense words.

They will probably be asking lots of questions the "why" one probably the most used. He or she should be starting to understand the volume and pitch of their voice Your child should be able to answer simple questions. The age at which toddlers start to speak and develop speech varies quite considerably.

GROSS MOTOR SKILLS

Your toddler should be able to walk, and run. Jumping with both feet off the ground will fascinate your toddler. He/she may be able to balance on one foot for a few seconds and even hop Your toddler can climb on and off furniture with ease. Your toddler may be able to ride a trycicle. It will be important to make sure your home is toddler safe

FINE MOTOR SKILLS.

Your toddler may be able to draw cirles, lines and dots. He/She may be to build a tower of 7 bricks Your toddler may be able to throw a ball, but will probably not be able to catch it, they may be able to catch a ball using both arms. He or she may use a preferred hand although you may not know if they are left or right handed for another few months.

Your toddler will be able to turn the pages of books Your toddler may be able to get most of their own clothes on. Toddlers of this age enjoy playing with building blocks, playdoh, and threading beads.

More 24-36 months toddler development milestones

SOCIAL and EMOTIONAL

Your toddler may be able to tell you how he or she is feeling. Tantrums shpuld decrease as your toddler becomes more verbal. Toddlers of this age may have developed theory of mind (this means they understand that you can have differant thoughts to themselves). They may have a strong moral sense and will expect others to obey the same rules, they will become upset if this doesn't happen. They have more empathy for others.

Your toddler will still tend to play alongside and not with other toddlers. He or she will start developing the idea of turn taking with practise. Your toddler will now be able to understand simple rules. Your toddler should be able to follow simple instructions They may be able to make choices between one or two things.

LEARNNG and COGNITIVE

Your toddlers memory will start to improve. Your toddler will love to copy adult activities such as washing up, cleaning the car, cooking etc. Your toddler may not understand the difference between reality and pretence so be aware of TV influence.

He or she will probably be playing imaginative games such as teddy tea parties. They may be able to sort objects; into colors, shapes, sizes etc. Your toddler should be able to point to body parts when asked to ie. "where is your nose"?

He or she should be able to match objects such as find the matching socks or find all the orange blocks. They should be able to name everyday objects in pictures. Toddlers of this age may begin to understand that objects have specific uses.
