Easter for Toddlers
Easter for toddlers.
These early years are the best time to introduce your child to the true meaning of easter.
- At easter we remember that Jesus sacrificed His life that those who believe in Him will have eternal life.
- He was put to death on a cross on a day we call Good Friday and rose again on the third day.
- He then appeared to many before He was seen being taken up to heaven to sit at God's right hand.
- From there he stands between us and God as an eternal sacrifice for our sin.
From a child's Bible read parts of the easter story to your toddler.
You will find it in Matthew chapters 26, 27 and 28.

Easter Poem
- Take some jelly beans using colors as below. Get your toddler to place the correctly colored jelly bean in a bowl as you read out the poem.
- Your toddler can then enjoy eating the jelly beans.
- Red is for the blood He gave.
- Green is for the grass He made.
- Yellow is for the sunflowers so bright.
- Black is for the dark of night.
- White is for the grace He gave.
- Orange is for the sun He made.
- Purple is for the hours of sorrow.
- Pink is for our new tomorrow.
- A bag full of jelly beans,
- colourful and sweet.
- It's a prayer, a promise,
- and a child's treat.
This is a wonderful idea for a sweet easter garden (from http://applesaucekids.com)
- An amazing craft that has been used year after year in my past teaching Sunday school /Children's Church at Easter:
- Give each student a "snowball" cupcake. (cupcakes upside down can work also) They place it on the plate as the tomb.
- 1. Have a small paper plate(6") for each student.
- 2. I first had them smear the plate with a little chocolate frosting (soil)
- 3. Then sprinkled the "dirt" with green tinted coconut (grass)
- 4. Take a spoon and make a hollow spot in the snowball (Like the empty tomb)
- 5. Place a small sign in the hole that states "He is not here! He is Risen"
- 6. Take a wafer cookie (nilla wafers work or 1/2 sandwich cookie) and set it over the hole to hide the sign and so that it can be "rolled away"
- 7. I let them finish decorating with tinted marshmallow, sprinkles, gum drops, whatever I had available to finish decorating around the tomb.(flowers)
- 8. I would finish the scene with a large gum drop or marshmallow rabbits punctured with a toothpick bearing a small sign that announced: The Easter story.
- Once the creation was done, they were sent back to their parents/family/friends with the directions that they could eat their creation...but only after they had shared with at least three adults the story that they had learned that day. And that, of course was the lesson of Easter that was discussed before and during the craft. It is great to watch them excited about sharing the faith... and many were quick to do just that. To encourage them to take it home, I did have bags or food wrap to cover.

Easter for Toddlers
Making unleavened bread
Ingredients
- 5 cups flour
- 1 2/3 sticks butter
- 1 pint whipping cream
Method
- Mix together flour, butter and cream.
- Knead until mixed.
- Press onto cookie sheet and bake at 450 degrees F (or 230 degrees C)for 15 minutes or until lightly golden.
Unleaven bread originated as a result of God taking the children of Israel out of Egypt.
They were in such a hurry to leave that they did not take the time to let their bread rise,
thus the term 'unleaven' (or not lightened) bread. When the order was given to leave they quickly packed their unbaked,
unrised bread dough into their back packs and started across the desert. The desert heat baked the bread into flat matzah.
Actually any kosher bread recipe can be used as long as you DO NOT ALLOW it to rise. You can buy unleaven bread in many stores today,
it is called matzah, matso, matzos or (pl) matzoth.
