Frugal grocery shopping takes a bit of planning and organisation. Treat it as a challenge, that way you won't get fed up and give up.
Grocery shopping is usually the area of our finances that is a bit flexible, if you spend less great, use the spare money wisely.
Here are some frugal grocery shopping tips that have helped us.
- 1.Check your fridge, freezer and cupboards before grocery shopping. Make a list.
- Stick to your list.
- 2.Try to collect coupons. Join loyalty programmes at your local stores. Cut coupons from your local press
- Get coupons organised before you go grocery shopping.
- 3.prepare a menu, use recipe books or look online for frugal recipes.
- Do weekly or two weekly menus. Organise meals so you can eat one one night and have leftovers the next.
- Cook more of some meals so that you can have that meal for lunch the next day, or to freeze.

- 4. It may seem obvious but don't go shopping when you are hungry.
- Shop after you have eaten then you won't be tempted to buy snacks.
- 5. If you can avoid taking your toddlers grocery shopping. you won't be able to concentrate on the task in hand
- 6.Why not shop online? this saves both time and money. This way you won't have to take your toddler and can shop in your own time.
- The shopping is then delivered to your door.
- 7. Eat less meat. Have a couple of meatless meals a week. They can be quick to prepare.
- Use beans, lentils, and quorn in it's place

- 8.Shop once a week for groceries to avoid spending more than you need
- For specials go in and look in the area they are kept only so that you are not tempted by other foods
- 9. We usually freeze bread and milk to prevent additional trips to the store. To freeze your milk pour a little out first to prevent the plastic bottle bursting.
- MILK The milk will look a bit yellow when frozen but is fine. Shake well before using.
- Use frozen milk within 3 months.
- 10. Your local farmers market may be a great place to source seasonal fresh produce.
- 11.Purchase large pots of natural yoghurts. You can flavor the yoghurt yourself if you like.
- 12. If you take a calculator shopping with you, you will be able to calculate your bill as you go around the store.
Take cash with you, leave the cards at home, this way you cannot overspend.
- 13. Look for products such as meat near their sell by dates. These tend to be sold at a good price as otherwise the store will have to bin it.
- Buy meat like this and cook the same day and freeze.
- 14.The end caps of aisles in the store have the best offers.
- 15. Use store brands, try them to see which you like, most taste the same as named brands but are significantly cheaper.
