  • All you need are pairs of different colored socks. Separate each pair and pop the socks into a basket or box.
  • help your toddler to match the pairs of socks.
  • Use words such as pair, two, couple etc to reinforce pairs of items.
  • Talk about the things that make the socks match for instance: colors, stripes, feel etc.
  • Chores
  • Get your toddler helping with the chores.
  • Toddlers love to do adult things.
  • Here are some ideas for easy toddler chores:
  • Laying up their own dishes and utensils on the dining table.
  • Clearing their own dishes into the kitchen after eating.
  • Putting their own dirty clothes into the washing machine or laundry basket.
  • Putting away their own toys in to toy box.
  • Wet dusting (I gave my toddlers a damp cloth (water) to dust with.
  • They can also help with washing the car.
  • Toddlers could also do washing up (supervised of course), only safe plastic bowls and utensils.
  • Counting Games
  • Count stairs together.
  • Count socks.
  • Count toys or books.
  • Count the numbers on a clock face.
  • Count anything as you are going about your days.
  • Throw and catch games.
  • Use a large lightweight ball.
  • Toss it slowly to your toddler(they will start out by catching with their whole arms and generally not their hands).
  • Let your toddler toss the ball to you.
  • Make sure you do this in a safe place as a toddler's throw will not be co-ordinated to begin with.
  • Floating and sinking activities
  • Get a bowl of clear water and unbreakable household objects that will float or sink.
  • Let your toddler experiment with putting the objects in the water one at a time.
  • Talk with your toddler using the words float and sink as you describe what is happening.
  • Let your toddler tell you what is happening as you watch.
  • Never leave you toddler unsupervised with a bowl of water.
    Jigsaw puzzles
  • Puzzles are great for toddler learning activities.
  • You can make your own by sticking a picture from a magazine onto paper then cutting into shapes.
